Pondicherry Art Akademy is actively encouraging and promoting art and creative talents for the past 8 years in which they have organised and curated 26 art events and exhibitions successfully. On the occasion of International Women’s day with an aim to encourage the women artists, Pondicherry Art Akademy organises National Women Artists’ Group show every year. This year is their 5th edition. In this show, 70 women artists from all over India are participating and displayed wonderful works of art which is a visual treat. The Exhibition was inaugurated on 8th March 2019, International Women’s Day at Dakshina Chitra, East Coast Road, Muttukadu, Chennai in a grand manner. Pondicherry Art Akademy Founder and Secretary Artist G. Sridalaadevi welcomed the guests and the gathering.
The President of Akademy Kalaimamani artist K.K.Segar, honoured the chief guests and shared the achievements of the Akademy and told the importance of creating a platform for the women artists. Artist M.Senathipathy, President, Cholamandal Artists’ Village inaugurated the show and encouraged then participants. He also wished the academy a great success. At the inaugural ceremony, artist M.G. Raffic Ahamed, the guest of honour appreciated the new style and outstanding display of art works done by the participants. Artist Lakshmi Krishnamurthy, Head-Dept of Visual Arts, Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts released the catalogue of the show and gave tips for the artists.
Artist Gita Hudson, Painter, Filmmaker & Curator of Dakshin Chitra received the 1st copy of the catalogue and shared few of her experience to all the women artists and also invited all of them to exhibit in Dakshina Chitra in future. To encourage the participants, 3 paintings were selected for award. The award winners are namely, Artist. Chiquita Ravi – Chennai, Artist Dr. Kanchan Murhekar – Nagpur and Artist Vaishnavi Shankhwalkar – Goa. The show will continue on till 30th March 2019 at Dakshina Chitra, East Coast Road, Muttukadu, Chennai.
